Nurhan Odabasi, 86, was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 25, 1930.
He came to the United States in his twenties, where he met his beloved wife, Lepa. Together, they created a life and raised three children on Long Island, N.Y.
Nurhan never met a stranger. A simple ‘hello’ would often turn into a lengthy conversation with stories, laughs, and a new friend.
He was very proud to be an American, and loved this country. He was well-traveled and spoke five languages. Upon retiring, he and his wife moved to Williamsburg, Va., in 1996 to be near their daughter, Lisa. He enjoyed cooking, spending afternoons in Colonial Williamsburg and doing activities with his family.
Nurhan passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lepa.
He is survived by his sister Sona Oskay, his children, Dr. Lisa Odabasi, and her husband, Robert Alpino, Liana O’Connor, and her husband, Tim, and Darian Odabasi, and his wife, Rachel; and 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Nelsen Funeral Home with a memorial service starting at 6 p.m.
Donations may be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg.
