
Eugene Francis Lovitt Sr., 83, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Joshua and Ruth Lovitt.
He was a graduate of Maury High School. He retired as senior vice president of Watters & Martin Wholesale Hardware Distribution after 52 years. He was a member of Avalon Church of Christ and an honorary lifetime member and master Mason, 33rd Degree with Atlantic Lodge No. 2, A.F.&A.M., Norfolk.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Lois Ann Lovitt; daughter, Latricia A. Vanderslice, and husband, Samuel, of Virginia Beach; two sons, Eugene F. Lovitt Jr., and wife, Sheryl, and Mark A. Lovitt, and wife, Jennifer, all of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Samuel P. Vanderslice, V, and wife, Dori, of North Carolina, Joshua L. Vanderslice, and wife, Laura, of Suffolk, Adam B. Vanderslice and Whitney of Chesapeake, Eugene F. Lovitt III, Austin M. Lovitt, Lola M. Lovitt and Lacey R. Lovitt, all of North Carolina; and six great-grandchildren, Bailey A. Vanderslice and Samuel P. Vanderslice VI of North Carolina, Louis W. Vanderslice of Suffolk, Brooklyn F. Vanderslice of Chesapeake, Kayden C. Vanderslice of North Carolina and Lennon C. Vanderslice of Suffolk.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at Avalon Church of Christ with Pastor James G. Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
