Emil Grant ‘Curly’ Culbertson 76, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 2, 2016. He was born in Jasper, Ark., to the late Gussie Morris and Clarence Culbertson.
Curly retired in 1995 after 20 years of service as a master firefighter with the City of Virginia Beach. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960.
In addition to his parents, Curly was preceded in death by his wife, Jane L. Culbertson; stepfather, Charlie ‘Pop’ Morris; and a brother, Larry Carson Culbertson.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Charles G. Culbertson Sr., and his wife, Sheri; daughter, Valerie Craft, and husband, Jim; loving companion, Julie Baker; four grandsons; Grant, and his wife, Erin, Austin, Josh and Matt; one great-granddaughter, Eileen; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, including Dick and Sandy Morrison and Albert May. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday April 7, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday April 8, at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Cedar Manor Assisted Living and Freda H. Gordon Hospice & Palliative Care for all the loving care given to Curly during his illness.
