Frank R. Spadea unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Frank was born in Jamaica, N.Y., to the late Nicholas and Mary Spadea.

He attended college at St. John’s University in New York. Frank moved to the Hampton Roads area over 50 years ago. He was mentored and influenced by many successful people in the building and real estate industry.

He started the Franciscus Company in 1976. Building and developing were his passion, and many remember him poring over plans with his legendary tracing paper. Forty years later, his nationally recognized innovations in land planning and building design will influence building trends and practices for generations.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Kathy; daughter, Lori; son-in-law, Ryan Nye; stepson, Russell; daughter-in-law, Angie Clark; his beloved grandchildren, Tripp, Mia and Brock Hanley and Elijah and Levi Clark. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Adolino, and her husband, Bob, of Margate, Fla.; and many other relatives, countless friends and colleagues. Being with his family, especially his grandchildren, filled his heart with joy and pride.

His generosity and kindness were felt by many, and his absence will be felt deeply, and it will be far reaching. His devout faith and devotion to the Lord was unwavering and a true example of Grace. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday April 4, at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday April 5, at Spring Branch Community Church, 1500 N. Great Neck Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to Virginia Beach Young Life, P.O. Box 4492, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
