Catherine Taylor, 91, departed this life for her eternal reward on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.
Born on June 1, 1924, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a graduate of Granby High School, Norfolk. She faithfully attended Kempsville Baptist Church and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Garland Russell Taylor of Virginia Beach; her parents, Louis Joseph and Katherine Thompson Stengel; and her brothers, Joseph Stengel and Russell Stengel.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Barry, and her husband, Robert Barry, of Ruther Glen; son, Garland Taylor Jr., and his wife, Belinda, of Suffolk; grandsons, Warren Taylor of Blacksburg, Andrew Barry of Richmond and Patrick Barry, and his wife, Virginia, of Austin, Texas; and niece, Vivian Willman of Norfolk.
Catherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her generosity was greatly appreciated by her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. following visitation. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
