Nancy Taylor Johnston Byrd, 62, interior designer and creator of custom jewelry

Nancy Taylor Johnston Byrd, 62, of Virginia Beach, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 29, 2016, after a brief illness. She was born July 23, 1953, in Norfolk to Edward Callender Johnston and Betty Lou Fentress Johnston.

She graduated from Granby High School and was an alumna of Louisburg College in North Carolina. Nancy excelled as a sales representative for Albemarle Supply, but her creative gifts were employed as an interior designer and creator of custom jewelry. She loved her family, her home and her gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Lee Byrd; son, Kenneth William Knight; and brother, Edward Callender Johnston Jr.

Along with her parents, Nancy is survived by her son, Matthew Parker Knight; and her stepchildren, Randall Byrd, Angela Slate and April Lemley and their spouses and children.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 405 Talbot Hall Road, Norfolk. The Rev. Stewart Mason Tabb will be officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 405 Talbot Hall Road, Norfolk, VA 23505; Norfolk Botanical Gardens, 6700 Azalea Garden Road, Norfolk, VA 23518; or a charity of one’s choice.
