Robert O. ‘Bob’ Frenzel, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. Bob was born May 10, 1944, in New York City to the late Otto and Patricia (Harcourt) Frenzel.
He resided in the New York area before moving to Virginia Beach 20 years ago. Involved in finance, Bob worked for HFC and Diner’s Club before joining Avis Budget Group in 1977, retiring as director of Credit and Collections.
A lover of animals, Bob raised many dogs. In retirement, he and Reese, his black standard poodle, were part of the Buddy Brigade at CHKD to comfort sick or battered children and at local schools to help children.
Bob is survived by his loving wife and constant companion of 42 years, Harriet (Rosenstein); his very special godson, Anthony Rosato of New York; ‘daughter,’ Sally Griffin of Virginia Beach; nephew, John Racener of Florida; niece, Patti Racener of Florida; two special grandchildren, Kendall Ohman of Utah and Erik Ohman of Colorado; special friends, Al, Nelson, Joe and Gene, who became an important part of the last years of Bob’s life; and all his many friends and participants of the house and meetings of the Friends of Bill.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Janeen Racener.
Bob was a very outgoing and social person who touched many lives. Bob always demonstrated a genuine respect for the individual, regardless of their title or position. If he touched your life, you became a friend.
The family would like to express the utmost thanks and appreciation to the staffs of Virginia Oncology and the Freda Gordon Hospice and Palliative Care of Tidewater. In particular, Dr. Radkar, Laura, Annie, Kirsten, Tom and especially Michele – you are all truly angels on the earth.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Old Donation Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, it was Bob’s wish to help provide life – saving ballistic vests for the K9 Corps of VBPD. Please send donations in Bob’s memory to: VBPF, P.O. Box 56385, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
