Jewel Brandt Davis was born in a small farmhouse on the Vernon farm in Amelia County, Virginia on February 21, 1935, and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, in Virginia Beach with family by her side.
Mrs. Davis graduated from Amelia County High School, Class of 1953, Longwood College and Penn State University. She worked as a guidance counselor at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton and director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, where she first met Winston while he was visiting his parents who lived next door.
Mrs. Davis was married to Winston in Staunton on September 30, 1967. She dedicated her life to family and friends. She delighted in raising her two sons. She also dedicated much of her time to Galilee Church as a member of the Flower Guild, Altar Guild and the Women of Galilee, who ran the Galilee Gift Shop and Book Store. She was a proud member of the Linkhorn Park Garden Club and taught her sons a love of gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Winston; her parents, John and Caroline ‘Callie’ Brandt; and her brothers, Edwin and Buddy. She is survived by her sons, Mac, and his wife, Melissa, of Virginia Beach and Jon, and his wife, Robin, of Norfolk, five grandchildren, Katie, Caroline, Jaime, Patrick and Brendan; and two great-grandchildren, Willie and Laurie.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Galilee Episcopal Church, 3928 Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach.
