
Audrey Mildred Beachum Hatter, 89, of the 3000 block of Pinewood Drive, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 19, 2016. She retired after 29 years of service as an operator at Western Union during World War II. She loved gardening, taking care of her grandchildren, pet sitting for the ‘grand pups’ and spending time with her family and sisters.
Born September 15, 1926, in Ansonville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Ferrell and Alice Carpenter Beachum, and widow of the late Kenneth Hudson Hatter (d.2004). She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Lytch, Bea Williams, Kate Boggan, Sara Shean and Nancy Pinsince; and brothers, Boyce Beachum, Crowell Beachum, William Beachum and Joe Beachum.
She is survived by her three children including her son Wesley D. Hatter, and wife, Sharon, of Virginia Beach, daughter, Susan A. Hatter Forester, and husband, Bruce Forester, of Chesapeake, and son Rex H. Hatter, and wife, Jennifer, of Danville, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Casey and Ryan Hatter, Amanda and Nathan Forester and Dean and Lauren Hatter. She is also survived by two sisters, Connie B. Sandler and Lucy B. Griffin of Virginia Beach.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, March 23, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
