
Charles Maynard ‘Chuck’ Shaffer, Sr., 84, passed away unexpectedly in Inverness, Fla., on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Born June 10, 1931, in Baltimore, Md., he was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
Chuck served the citizens of Norfolk as a fire apparatus operator with the Norfolk Fire Department retiring after 37 years. He was the owner and operator of Shaffer’s Texaco Station and Shaffer’s Towing & Repair Service in Norfolk. Chuck loved Florida, and in the past few years had become a snowbird residing in Inverness, Fla. He also loved RVing and was past president and wagonmaster of the Colonial Virginians RV Club.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Raymond, Harry and Joey. Left to cherish his memory are his loving dedicated wife, Linda, and their five children, Charles Jr., Stephen Shaffer, Patricia Dorsch, Cindee Hakim and Carrie Darling; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, with Norfolk Fire-Rescue Honor Guard in attendance.
