Gordon Edward Christie, 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior, February 15, 2016, after long and courageous 15-year battle with 0ral cancer.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 36 years, Ann Lougheed Christie; daughter, Gabrielle; son, Brandon; Robert Christie (Debby), sisters-in-law, Lisa Wheatley (Kevin) and Amy Lougheed; brother-in-law, Paul Lougheed (Karen); his nieces and nephews, Rob Christie, Melinda Penn, Breanna and Austin Wheatley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Colin and Dorothy Christie.
Gordon was a local native, a 1970 graduate of Norview High School and a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, New York. He began his culinary career locally at Victoria Station, Ships Cabin, Princess Anne Country Club, The Omni Norfolk and The Pavilion before starting his own off-site catering company, A Touch of Class Catering in 1980, and then Grand Affairs in 1986. He acted as the general manager until his second bout of cancer.
He was known as a great practical joker but serious about witnessing for Christ to friends, family and any stranger who crossed his path. Gordon was a lifelong member of Forefront Church and passionate about local ministry, People in Need, where his company caters hot meals for the homeless community every Sunday.
A recipient of the State of Virginia’s Small Business of the Year Award, NAACP Image Award and the Inside Business’ Entrepreneur Excellence Award, Gordon’s greatest accomplishment was that his life reflected his belief in Christ.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 19, at The Chapel at Grand Affairs with the service and celebration of life reception at 5 p.m. Saturday, February 20, also at Grand Affairs, 2036 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Forefront Church, 2520 Holland Road, Virginia Beach 23453; or forefront.org to support local and international missions.
