Lorene B. Meekins was called from this earthly land to eternal rest on Friday, December 4, 2015.
Her life’s journey began on August 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Martha and James A. Bartlett.
“Rene,” as she was so affectionately called, attended Bruton Heights School. For many years she resided in Long Branch, New Jersey, where she was employed in the Garment District as a Seamstress. In December of 1993, she returned to Williamsburg and joined hands in fellowship once again with Chickahominy Baptist Church. Rene was a faithful servant of God until her demise.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Meekins, four of her sisters, three of her brothers, and her aunts and uncles. Remembering her always with love are her two daughters, Eunice Taylor (Lester, Jr.) and Sheila Meekins-Gibson (James Jr.); her son, Jerrone Meekins Sr. (Vinnetie); her 13 grandchildren; her 31 great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Rosa Wallace (Freddie), Roberta Dandridge (Howard), Mary Ashlock and Phyllis Williams (Charles, Jr.); her brothers, Charles Bartlett, Clifton Bartlett (Pearl), Jesse Bartlett (LaJoyce), Fred Bartlett (Colleen) and Carlton Williams; her nieces, nephews and cousins; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; her very special friend, Celestine Overby ; other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, December 12, 2015, in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 4002 Ironbound Road, with the Rev. Ronald A. Ellis officiating.
Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Meekins may be viewed only in the church on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. until the hour of her service.
