John Edward Fitzpatrick, 94, flew 44 combat missions on B24 Liberator with U.S. Army Air Corps

obit flagJohn Edward Fitzpatrick, of Virginia Beach, died Nov. 13, 2015, at the age of 94.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was a native of Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he lived most of his life. He and his wife, Alice, moved to Virginia Beach in February of 2015.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was a retired supervisor from Exxon Engine Laboratory after more than 40 years of dedicated employment. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and flew 44 combat missions in a B24 Liberator and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a lifelong sports fan.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Alice Fitzpatrick; two sons, John Fitzpatrick and his wife, Carlyn, of Union, New Jersey and Brian Fitzpatrick and his wife, Kathleen, of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Katherine, Ann, Brian and Colleen; and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Patrick.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior in the church.
