Nona Dell Wheeler, of Williamsburg, died Nov. 6, 2015, at the age of 88.
Nona was one of seven children of Willie and Lilly Mae Odom, of Smithville, Tennessee. She graduated with honors from Dekalb County High School, worked for Congressman Joe L. Evins and moved to Washington D.C. in 1948 to work for the Navy Transportation Office. She raised two boys before becoming a realtor in Fairfax. She retired to Sun City, Florida in 1993. Nona Dell was active in civic affairs and enjoyed dancing, tennis, bridge, writing poetry and doing the daily crossword puzzle.
She will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Col. William Pryor Wheeler, at Arlington National Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons Douglas Ellis (Deborah), of Williamsburg and Donald Ellis (Katheryn), of Houston; and grandchildren, Ian, Rebecca, Jefferson and Zachary.
A memorial will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at Morningside of Williamsburg, 440 McLaws Circle, Williamsburg.
