Darrel E. Burri, of Williamsburg, died on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News. He was 76.

He was born in Bushong, Kansas, to Adolph and Clara Burri on Feb. 9, 1939. His early education was in Bushong and he was a rabid, proud Jayhawk from the University of Kansas.

His career spanned over 45 years serving both in the capacity of an Air Force officer and as a civil servant across the United States and Germany. More than 30 years were spent at Langley AFB.

Preceding Darrel in death were his parents, Adolph and Clara Burri and his father-and-mother-in-law, S. Max and Jeane Davis.

“Pops” or “Uncle,” as Darrel is known by grandchildren, nieces and nephews, is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Ashly Rogers (Greg); and son, Chris (Emily). His much loved grandchildren are Lauren and Cameron Rogers and Parker Burri.

Also surviving Darrel are his sister, Carol Peterson and brother-in-law, Scott Davis (Karen). Nieces, nephews and cousins who loved and adored Darrel are Brenda Peterson, Denise Black-Andersen (Jerry), Kevin Peterson (LeeAnne), Preston Davis, Cailee Andersen, Kari Roberts (Brock), Brennen Davis, Lisa Connor, Travis Connor, Nick Black, Cody Andersen, Katie Reeder, Lucas Peterson, Tessa Peterson and Kellen Roberts. A husband, a father, a “Pops,” a brother, a friend, a colleague–a true man for all seasons–Darrel also leaves many longtime friends and acquaintances.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon, Nov. 6, 2015, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church where Darrel served on the Welcome and Witness Committee.

At Kingspoint Club House, Darrel served as membership chairman and assistant treasurer. He was the first face of Kingspoint many people saw as they moved into the community.

Memorials may be given to Early Childhood Music School at WUMC, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185; Habitat For Humanity, Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg; and Leukemia and Lymphona Society.

Please leave online condolences for the family Bucktrout Funeral Home.
