
Rosemary Eble Policastro, of Williamsburg, died Sept. 17, 2015, at WindsorMeade. She was 89.
A native of New Orleans, she was born Jan. 21, 1926, the second youngest of six children born to the late Charles James Eble Jr. and Mary Alma Eble. She was the wife of Col. John Justin Policastro (U.S. Army, retired), whom she married in New Orleans on Jan. 4, 1947. He preceded her in death in Williamsburg on April 7, 2010.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles J. Eble III; sisters, Mary Catherine Eble, Carmelite E. Eble, Charlotte L. Eble and Alma Clare Platt; and sons, John J. Policastro Jr. and Mark S. Policastro.
She is survived by her daughters, Catherine A. (Paul) Freiling, of Williamsburg and Margaret A. (Robert) Cohen, of Raleigh, North Carolina; sons, James C. (Regina) Policastro, of Boston, Paul F. Policastro and his wife Patricia Rosa, of Hamilton, Montana, Michael F. (Barbara) Policastro, of Cincinnati and Stephen J. (Susan) Policastro, of Cincinnati; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She grew up in New Orleans and worked in her family’s floral business prior to her marriage. As the wife of a career Army officer and U.S Representative to NATO, she nurtured and transitioned her large family across residences in Texas, New Jersey, Maryland, Alaska, New York, France, Germany, Belgium and Virginia and finally to retirement in Williamsburg.
Mrs. Policastro devoted her life to her family and faith. She visited with family frequently, was an active member of St. Bede Catholic Church and was a former resident of Ford’s Colony. She was also involved in numerous church, community and government volunteer organizations throughout her life.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Oct. 2, 2015, at St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be held at St. Bede Columbarium.
