Vernon R. “Ray” Jenkins, of Williamsburg, died peacefully on Sept. 6, 2015, at the age of 91.
A native of Richmond, Mr. Jenkins retired from the U.S. Navy after 31 years of service. Mr. Jenkins was a devoted member of the Gideon’s International – Williamsburg (Camp). He was a former member of the Great Bridge Baptist Church and taught there for 22 years. For the past seven years he was a member of Walnut Hills Baptist Church in Williamsburg.
Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Gladys H. Jenkins; parents, Thomas F. and Mabel E. Jenkins; sisters, Edna Barber, Joyce Koon, Ruby McDonough, Patricia Pridgen and Betty-Jo Jenkins; and brothers, Durward, Thomas, Bruce, John and Lewis Jenkins.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Regenia Regambal and Betty-Jo Taylor (Tim); son, Charles T. Jenkins; grandchildren, Jamie, Sharon, Michael, Douglas, Angela, Jennifer, Jessica, Matthew and Maxwell; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Jenkins (Marian); and sisters, Mabel Snellings and Phyllis Harmon.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, with a reception to follow at the church fellowship hall.
