Lyle Everett Thomas, of Williamsburg, died Aug. 21, 2015, at the age of 88.
He was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Cameron, Missouri. His boyhood years were spent in Hannibal, Missouri where he graduated from Hannibal High School in 1944.
Shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Navy. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree, with a major in mathematics, from the University of Michigan in 1947. He also was a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, with a major in business administration.
During the period of 1953 to 1970, he served in various assignments as a naval commissioned officer. In 1970 after serving 20 years of active duty, he retired from the Navy with the rank of lieutenant commander, Supply Corps. From 1970 to 1996, he continued to serve the Navy in a civilian capacity in various assignments related to the Navy Resale Program.
After retiring from civilian service, Lyle and and his wife Lois retired to Williamsburg. Since moving to Williamsburg, Lyle was an active member of the Wellspring United Methodist Church.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Lois; sister, Kathleen Marie, of Hannibal, Missouri; brother, Harold Lynn, of St. Louis, Missouri; children, Pamela Jeanne Schiller, of Hamilton, New Jersey, Bradley Paul Thomas, of Disputanta, Jeffery Read Thomas, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey and Kathleen Ann Wolfe, of Sparta, New Jersey; and grandchildren, Shanna Thomas, Evan Thomas, Douglass Wolfe and Jessica Wolfe.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Wellspring United Methodist Church, 4871 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172.
