HAMPTON ROADS — With flu season approaching, local major health care systems will soon host free flu shot clinics for communities.
Sentara Healthcare and Riverside Health System will host free flu vaccine clinics this fall.
Riverside
Riverside will host several free drive-thru and walk-up clinics throughout the region for both flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Patients 12 and older can receive the flu and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines at the same time, with one in each arm, including second and third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine with proof of prior vaccination.

Masking is required at all times at the clinics, and temperature checks and safety screenings will be required prior to any patient receiving a flu shot.
Sentara
On Saturday, Oct. 2, Sentara will host 17 free, drive-thru flu clinics throughout Virginia and northeast North Carolina, adding five more clinic locations from last year.
Sentara said that each location will be prepared to administer between 300-700 flu shots, and more than 7,500 flu vaccines in one day throughout all locations.
The drive-thru flu vaccine clinics will run from 8 a.m. until noon, or until all shots are given.
No appointment is needed, and shots will be given on a first come, first serve basis.
Adults 18 years and older can receive a free flu shot without leaving their car. COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed at all timesm and a mask is required in order to get a flu shot.
