VIRGINIA BEACH — A 29-year-old local man sexually assaulted a child inside a storage unit.
Timothy Floyd McHellon on Tuesday admitted the crime and pleaded guilty to three counts of forcible sodomy (victim under 13), aggravated sexual battery, attempted rape and custodial indecent liberties, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for Virginia Beach.
Circuit Court Judge William R. O’Brien sentenced McHellon (per the plea deal) to 50 years in prison, suspending 20 years.
“The sentence was above the high-end of the Virginia State Sentencing Guidelines’ recommendation,” said Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin D. Stolle, in a news release.
Stolle said McHellon “sexually assaulted a child known to him on multiple occasions in a storage unit where he was living,” between May 15, 2016 and June 16, 2016.
The child told another family member about the abuse. That family member reported the matter to police.
While in jail, McHellon apparently made “several incriminating statements.”
According to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, McHellon has prior convictions for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, giving a false name to law enforcement, hit-and-run, and two counts of possession of marijuana.
