WILLIAMSBURG— Historic Garden Week will be returning to Williamsburg, showcasing the Colonial Williamsburg area in celebration of the United States 250th Anniversary.
According to the official website, Historic Garden Week is described as a week visitors can tour inspired private landscapes, public gardens, and historic sites across Virginia, enjoying our beautiful state at the peak of spring. In addition, more than 1,000 world-class floral arrangements created by Garden Club of Virginia members will enhance tour properties. This statewide event will include unique tours organized and hosted by 48 member clubs located from the foothills of the Shenandoah Valley all the way to the beaches of Tidewater.
In Williamsburg, the event will allow attendees to see five historic properties rarely seen by the public and six featured gardens. One of these includes the Goodwin Building, which serves as an administrative building for Colonial Williamsburg. There is also Bassett Hall and the Governor’s Palace gardens as key highlights for the tour.
The Williamsburg Garden Club says that Historic Garden Week is April 18 to April 25, with the specific day for Williamsburg being on April 21 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tickets for the event can be purchased online for $50 in advance and then $60 on the day of the event. Williamsburg is also selling tickets locally in Williamsburg at Seasons, and the other is at Wild Birds Unlimited. Funds from Historic Garden Week are used by the Garden Club of Virginia to continue the conservation and preservation of historical landscapes throughout the state.
“It’s more of a statewide house and garden tour. And as a cherished springtime tradition, we normally, throughout the state, have more than 24,000 people. Last year, we had people from 42 states and 16 countries come to Virginia to see this tour,” said one of the Williamsburg Garden Club co-chairs, Melinda Morgan.
“We’re excited this year having Williamsburg, because the gardens tell the story of America,” she continued.
