WILLIAMSBURG— Amanda Deverich, long-time Williamsburg therapist and practice owner, will be signing her book “Affair Repair: Proven Strategies to Heal, Forgive, and Rebuild Love after Infidelity,” on March 14 at the New Town Barnes & Noble.
Amanda Deverich moved to Williamsburg in 2007 and attended William & Mary after the passing of her husband the year prior. She received her degree and opened up Williamsburg Counseling. It was there she stayed until COVID, which she decided to wander once the pandemic subsided.
Deverich says she had always considered herself a counselor. She served in the Air Force as as intelligence, and it was her responsibility to debrief returned prisoners of war.
“That was sort of trial by fire. I think my first experience with counseling. I always had a love of people and relationships and ended up following that path,” Deverich said about the experience.
Though it wasn’t her original plan to go into relationship counseling, she thought she would be a parenting guru and had learned a lot about parenting because she was a solo parent.
“I would give these presentations, and it turned out all of the moms would come with their husbands. And then, as part of the couples counseling, I got really good at couples counseling, that became a real love of mine, and then affairs just became such a pain point. It’s a common thing. But it’s a difficult thing and not many therapists want to deal with couples and particularly affairs, because they’re so intense,” Deverich explained.
“In the book, there’s The Miracle Story. I worked with a couple, which I thought would never make it, and I worked some of the divorce-busting techniques I had been trained in, and I didn’t think they’d make it, but they did, and that inspired the rest of the story,” she continued.
At the event on March 14, those interested in purchasing or having a copy of her book are invited to come up and talk with her a bit about the book.
“[Coming back to Williamsburg] feels great. I have such a community there. Friends, I go back probably once a quarter or so, so it feels like they’ve walked the story with me,” Deverich said about coming back to the area for the event.
“Once a cheat, not always a cheat. You never know what’s gonna happen. The affairs of the past also need and should be processed if that’s what the person who is cheated on feels like. I think those are some key points,” she added about the book.
Deverich also encourages anybody who wants to be sure that there is a book at Barnes & Noble for them to be sure to reserve a copy through a reservation page.
The event will be on March 14 at 1 p.m. at the Williamsburg New Town Barnes & Noble. For more information about Deverich, please visit her official website.
