WILLIAMSBURG — The Three Jolly Coachmen’s Coffee House concert series will present a performance by Al-Hawanim Friday, Nov. 7.
Al-Hawanim is a collective of four women who extensively research and perform music from the Arab world and Middle East.
The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Lewis Hall, Bruton Parish Episcopal Church‘s fellowship hall.
“This will be a rare Coffee House treat,” said Greg Davy, a member of the Kingston Trio tribute group The Three Jolly Coachmen, the hosts of the series. “This concert will be very much in the spirit of the 1960s-era coffee houses, where people curious about, and wanting to discover, music from around the world would gather to experience something ‘cutting-edge’ and refreshing.”
Comprised of Anne Rasmussen, William & Mary’s Professor of Music/Ethnomusicology and Bickers Professor of Middle Eastern Studies, and three other accomplished and talented W&M alumnae, concert organizers say Al-Hawanim (Arabic for “the women”) will present “a concert of rare repertoire, popular gems and international hits on a variety of fascinating, authentic instruments.”
As the series does for each concert, it will partner with a local charitable organization that will receive a portion of all ticket sales and 100% of all additional drink donations received the night of the concert. For its Nov. 7 performance, proceeds will benefit Here For The Girls, whose mission is to support women under 50 in their unique breast cancer journey.
