WILLIAMSBURG — The Call to Arms Gaming Convention will return for its third year at the Clarion Hotel in Williamsburg on Oct. 11-13.
While the convention has existed for several years, this is the third year South-Eastern Tabletop Gaming Organization, LLC, will be running it.
“We see events like this as being a service to the community. Everyone involved is really heavily involved in just the general gaming community both in Hampton Roads and further abroad,” Ben Marsh, a member of South-Eastern Tabletop Gaming Organization explained. “We just thought it was a shame that the event was going to no longer be run so we decided to cast our lot with it and see if we could make something of it.”
South-Eastern Tabletop Gaming Organization took over Call to Arms in 2019 with the expectation to run its first event in 2020, until the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the event until 2022.
“For us it was a resounding success, we learned a lot and had a lot of fun,” Marsh said about the first event. “Everyone that’s part of running it, we’re a friend group and so it was really fun having to project to cooeless around.”

Since then, the organization says it has expanded to start helping with other events. They say it has given them an opportunity to give back to the gaming community.
“[Giving back] is our prime motivating factor,” Marsh stated. “Giving the different gaming communities in the area a place that they can go to meet new people and enjoy themselves.”
This year’s convention is set to feature a variety of curated events including: A Horus Heresy Narrative event, Warhammer 40k Grand Tournament, an Age of Sigmar GT, a Bolt Action Tournament, Infinity Tournament, numerous Tabletop RPG sessions (like Dungeons & Dragons) and numerous other bespoke game systems for open play and Demos.
This will also be the first year that the convention is going to feature a painting competition. It will be judged by local painter Jake English, who has won numerous painting awards and the newest edition of Age of Darkness released by Games Workshop featured his painting of a Dark Angels army.
Registration for the event is $30 per person for the whole weekend, children 12 and under are allowed to attend for free with adult admission. For more information, visit the official event website.
