GLOUCESTER — American Legion Post and Riders Chapter 75 in Gloucester is holding its first annual Ridedown-The-Need Poker Run on June 1, and is looking for community support.

Joseph Dugan, American Legion Post and Rider Chapter 75 Road Captain, describes a Poker Run as when a group or team gets together to ride to several locations, pulling a card from a 52-card deck at each stop. A person at a table marks the team’s or rider’s scorecard with the card they pulled. Participants then have the opportunity to enjoy the location before moving on to the next, where the process is repeated. This is done a total of five times.

“So you have a five-card hand, and it goes by poker rules,” Dugan continues. “Normally, the person who has the best hand wins a $100 prize or something like that. It’s a way to have motorcycles get together.”

Dugan says that the planned route will take riders up Route 17, up towards the Glenns area, then around through Mathews, Williamsburg, Newport News, up through Yorktown back to Gloucester. The draw points will be Post 75, Nooners Bar and Grill, Daddyo’s, Craft 60 Tap House and Grill, then finally the last card at Post 75 again.

Proceeds raised at the event will benefit veterans in need. The registration fee is $20 per bike and $10 for a passenger who may also draw. Vendor space is also available at $40 for a 10-by-10 space, and food trucks are asked for 10% of net sales.

The event will be at the American Legion Post and Riders Chapter 75. The rain date for the event is June 22. For more information or to register, email [email protected], or [email protected].
