WILLIAMSBURG — Peninsula Dance Party will host a ballroom dance for seniors on Feb. 3 at the Quarterpath Recreation Center.
Founder Diane Sinclair said Peninsula Dance Party creates a fun and free social experience for seniors who enjoy dancing and/or listening to live music.
“I met my significant other on the dance floor,” Sinclair recalled about her inspiration to launch Peninsula Dance Party. “I was bored and we were both retired and I decided I needed to do something besides mystery shopping with my time. Since I was in marketing and thought too many seniors were sitting on the couch, we decided to do a dance for them.”
Sinclair contacted Denbigh Community Center, which sponsored them, and they were able to set up the first dance. Denbigh provided the food and Sinclair found a DJ. Since then, she has accumulated lists of DJs and groups to help supply food and entertainment for the event.
Music for the Feb. 3 dance will be provided by the Ford’s Colony Dance Band. A ballroom, tango, and line dancing lesson is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m., and from 3 to 5 p.m., there will be ballroom dancing.
There will also be a raffle benefitting Literacy for Life and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Younger dancers over the age of 18 are welcome, however, they will be asked to dance with senior attendees and not each other.
Registration is required, but there is no cost to participate. Dancers are requested to RSVP by Jan. 30 by calling 757-912-2836 or by emailing [email protected]
