Williamsburg Book Festival Coming to the Stryker Center this Weekend

 
Ariatna is a second-grade student with an interest in themes of inclusiveness and diversity. Her role in promoting empathy in the world has translated into her first children’s book; The Mean Flower — a story about The Power of Empathy. She was five years old when she published her first book. In August 2022 Ariatna was honored with the 2022 Youth Honor Award by the multicultural magazine Skipping Stones. WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Book Festival will showcase local and regional talent Oct. 1 at the Stryker Center.

The aim of the Williamsburg Book Festival is to promote and support the art of literary composition in the Williamsburg area and expose writers to the reading public. The event is free and will feature various genres, speakers, illustrators, and publishers from Virginia and beyond.

The event will also include a book fair featuring over 40 regional and nationally renowned authors, as well as workshops and panels designed to illuminate library resources for book clubs. Topics will include the craft of writing, the music of poetry, and the mechanics of the book industry. A special presentation will be given by the Poetry Society of Virginia as well.

A publishing ally will be on hand to speak for some of the publishing companies, to display books and host authors and editors. There will also be publishing guidelines provided for aspiring authors interested in submitting manuscripts to a publishing house.

Some of the authors that will be in attendance include Bob Archibald, David Reid Brown, Carolyn Court, Tracy Gharbo, and second-grader Ariatna Claudio from Maryland. Local publisher Pale Horse Books and some of its authors will be in attendance. Featured speakers will also include Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle and Sarah Glenn Marsh.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stryker Center on Oct 1. For a full itinerary and list of attending authors, check out the official webpage.
