WILLIAMSBURG — After building a loyal following at the Williamsburg Farmers Market, the husband and wife team behind the former Jamestown Pie Company has opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant, Pie & Dine, bringing its from-scratch pies and Mediterranean dishes to a dine-in space on Pocahontas Trail.
Led by Volkan M. and Sevinc Danis, offers a variety of food options, including pot pies, pizza, sandwiches, wraps and Mediterranean specialties along with dessert pies.
“We weren’t going to open [a store,] but then we decided to open one because a lot of customers we had, they’d been asking for pies,” Volkan Müküs. Danis said. “We figured out that makes us happy, to make people happy with our food.
The business is run with the assistance and support of their family, with the staff including Danis’ brother, her sister-in-law, Müküs’ father, and a family friend.
Pie & Dine makes different pies fresh daily using fresh ingredients, with nothing canned or premade. Müküs said his father, Zeki Müküs, who is the head baker, picks strawberries and blueberries from farms to make pies.
Since opening, Pie & Dine has received feedback about wait times for food. The business addressed the concerns in a post on its Facebook page.
“Everything is made from scratch when you order. That’s why it can take a little longer,” the post stated. “But that’s also why the food is fresh and tastes the way it does.”
The business also features a mural by Walley E. Vogel, which Pie & Dine says was a gift. Vogel and the owners met at the farmers market, where he and his sister, Mickey Whalen, operate Gifts of Nature. Volkan M. said they admired his work and thought he was very talented, so they asked him to create the mural, and he agreed to take on the project.
Pie & Dine is open Tuesdays through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and closed on Mondays. The restaurant is located at 7103 Pocahontas Trail in Williamsburg, the former site of Los Paisanos. To learn more about Pie & Dine, visit their Facebook and Instagram pages.
