Two bank robberies same MO. Now two are in jail, and charges are pending on two others

NEWPORT NEWS — Two local men have been arrested in connection with two recent and separate bank robberies here.

Mark Allen Boyd, 54, of the 11000 block of 25^th Street is charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of robbery, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, conspiracy to commit a felony and false information on sex offender registry, police wrote in a news release.

David McDaniel, also 54, of the 200 block of Misty Pointe Lane, is charged with robbery, burglary, grand larceny, possession of burglary tools, accessory after the fact and revoked license.

Police said “two other persons were taken into custody for unrelated charges, however additional charges related to the robbery are pending.”

Authorities did not identify those “two other persons.”

Police said the first incident was at the Wells Fargo in the 11000 block of Warwick Boulevard on Oct. 18 – “an unknown male” went in and demanded cash (the suspect handed a teller a note).

The suspect fled in a dark colored Jeep Liberty.

The second heist was on Oct. 23 at Bayport Credit Union in the 8000 block of Marshall Avenue – the suspect used the same modus operandi.

Authorities did not release any information on what led them to arrest Boyd and McDaniel, saying only it was “after a thorough, multi-faceted investigation…”
