York County– York County will join communities around the globe in observing Building Safety Month throughout May.
The County’s first Building Safety Month event will take place on Monday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Freight Shed in Yorktown. This event is free and open to the public.
The Building Safety team will share practical home maintenance tips focused on preventing risks associated with piers, pools, and decks. Participants will learn how regular inspections and simple upkeep can help avoid structural issues and improve overall safety.
The York County Fire Department will also provide a presentation covering smoke alarms, leading causes of residential fires, and steps homeowners can take to prevent them. Additional topics include how to create an effective home fire escape plan and how to properly select and use fire extinguishers.
“Building safety is something most people don’t think about every day, but it affects all of us,” said Corian Carney, Building Official for York County. “From the homes we live in to the places we shop and gather, strong codes and skilled inspectors play a critical role in protecting our community. Building Safety Month is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about how we keep York County safe.”
York County invites residents of all ages to take part in Building Safety Month and learn more about the codes, practices, and people that help keep the community safe.
