Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the victim and the suspects prior to the incident.
“Our community is grieving after a tragic and senseless act of violence claimed a life and left a family facing unimaginable loss,” Police Chief Mark Jamison said in a statement. “Incidents like this are often the result of reckless and dangerous choices fueled by personal conflicts and a profound disrespect for human life.”
Jamison also thanked members of the James City County Police Department and assisting agencies, including the James City County Fire Department, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, for their work on the case, as well as community members who provided information.
