WILLIAMSBURG— After a kitchen fire broke out at Highway Pizza on Monday morning, fire department crews worked to extinguish the flames quickly. While no one was hurt, the fire has disrupted business operations and left staff facing unexpected financial strain. In response, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help support employees during the temporary closure as the business works to recover and rebuild.

The owners of Highway Pizza shared in the post that damage to the restaurant is severe and will likely require extensive work.

“While we are incredibly grateful that everyone is safe, the damage to the building is severe. As we begin navigating what comes next, our biggest concern right now is not the building, it’s our team,” the owners shared.

“Highway Pizza has never just been a business to us. It’s family. And that includes the amazing employees who show up every single day with heart, pride, and dedication. Some of them have been with us since the day we opened our doors. They are the faces that greet you, the hands that make your food, and the people who help create the memories inside our walls,” the owners added.

“Many of our team members rely on their income from Highway Pizza to support themselves and their families. With the restaurant temporarily closed and facing what could be a long rebuilding process, we want to do everything we can to make sure they are taken care of during this incredibly difficult time.”

Money raised throughout the GoFundMe is being distributed amongst staff as wages during the closure.

The owners also added that the outpouring of support has been overwhelming.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with our Highway Pizza family during this devastating time. We are overwhelmed by the love and support this community has already shown us,” ownership said.

Just over $6,000 has been raised for the business in the 24 hours since the GoFundMe link has been live.
