WILLIAMSBURG — The Virginia Beer Company will launch its newest IPA this weekend, part of a benefit concert at the brewery to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
On Dec. 6, guests are encouraged to spend the day at the Second Street brewery in support of Corinne Grgas, a local couple’s friend, who is battling MD. The day will feature live music from Jon Smith, Brady Heck, and Canaan Smith, in addition to raffle prizes, merch from Parkway Printshop and food trucks.
“Corinne was diagnosed with a form of distal myopathy known as GNE myopathy, a progressive neuromuscular disease that primarily affects the skeletal muscles. She is one of the most inspiring and optimistic people we have had the pleasure to know. Her determination and zest for life are the fuel for this fundraiser,” explained Leah Smith, fundraiser organizer.
Grgas and her husband, Luke, will travel from Nashville, Tennessee, to be in attendance at the fundraiser, where guests will hear firsthand from Corinne about her battle.
VBC will also launch its Courageous Hazy IPA, a specially brewed beer made exclusively for the fundraiser.
“Leah has been a regular supporter of the brewery ever since she arrived in Williamsburg. When she approached us about raising money to support Corinne and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, we felt like the idea of a benefit concert checked all three of our Beer, People, Purpose boxes. To bring awareness and money in to help a member of our community, while also recognizing an organization that does so much for so many, is exactly why we’re here. We hope everyone will join us for what’s sure to be an inspiring day on Saturday,” said VBC Co-Founder Chris Smith.
