JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County Parks and Recreation announced it is beginning the development of Grove Community Park, a new outdoor recreation space in the Grove neighborhood.
The project dates back to the original Parks and Recreation Master Plan in the early 1980s, according to the county.
Located on nearly six acres acquired at 8744 Pocahontas Trail, the park will include amenities such as a swimming pool, walking trails, picnic areas, fitness opportunities and spaces for play and gathering, the county said.
The property offers direct access to Pocahontas Trail, is situated on a corner lot and encompasses nearly six acres of predominantly wooded land, including a portion of Skiffes Creek, it added.
The county said JCC Parks and Recreation has initiated the initial stages of community engagement, including the development of a Grove Community Park webpage and reestablishing the Grove Neighborhood Advisory Committee, with the goal of sharing the proposed park’s location and vision, highlight potential amenities and encourage residents to stay informed.
James City County is currently in the process of selecting a design-build team that will both design and construct the park, it said, a process that is expected to be completed by February. At that point, it said more details will become available and opportunities for community input will begin, including community meetings, which will guide the selection of amenities and design features.
Additional information and updates may be found on the Grove Community Park webpage.
