WILLIAMSBURG — Cannon Country 107.9FM recently teamed up with other small market radio stations to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Gideon Dean, Cannon Communications Director, learned of the charitable initiative after a trip to Nashville. He brought the idea to Local Daily Media (the parent company of 92.3FM The Tide, 107.9FM Cannon Country and WYDaily) and the team quickly approved the radiothon.

On April 3 and 4, Cannon Country 107.9FM participated in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s coast-to-coast Radiothon. The event, made up of dozens of primarily small market country stations nationwide raised over half a million dollars for the hospital, with the total amount coming to $551,230.

“It was such a gratifying feeling to see our community come together and support the cause in such a huge way,” said Dean.

During the event, Cannon Country morning show host Cash Warren, Tide Radio morning show host Andy Harris, and Dean shared stories from St. Jude patients and families. The station staff also wore t-shirts in support of the initiative.

“We haven’t done something like this as a station and it was amazing to see such a positive and outpouring of love in response to it,” Dean added.
