Clean ‘Em With Kindness Benefits Grove Christian Outreach Center

Fish Window Cleaning of Peninsula delivered a random act of kindness by cleaning the windows — inside and out — at Grove Christian Outreach Center on March 5.

Grove Christian Outreach Center serves vulnerable families in the Greater Williamsburg area by providing essential resources like fresh food, clothing, and financial assistance. They even offer food delivery to homebound seniors, making a tremendous impact on neighbors who might otherwise go without. The generosity of this organization inspired the local Fish Window Cleaning to give back.

Car Show Coming to Deltaville

The Deltaville Maritime Museum Car Show/Cruise In will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Deltaville Maritime Museum, 287 Jackson Drive, Deltaville April 26.

The show is open to all cars, trucks, and tractors and is a non-judged show. The car show is held in conjunction with the Opening Weekend Holly Point Festival which features numerous vendors and live entertainment.

Show participants receive free entry to all museum facilities and two free Groovin tickets valid for any grooving during the 2025 season.

Virginia War Memorial Seeks Applicants for 2025 Marocchi Scholarship

The Virginia War Memorial in Richmond is seeking applicants for its Marocchi Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to Virginia high school seniors and college or university students who plan to enroll or are enrolled in ROTC at their prospective schools.

The scholarship provides two awards of $2,500 each, one given to a graduating senior, and one given to a Virginia resident attending a college or university in Virginia. The winners will each receive a scholarship award and a certificate from the nonprofit Virginia War Memorial Foundation and will also be invited to Richmond to be recognized for their work and commitment to serving the nation during the Commonwealth’s Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26, according to the nonprofit.

Application packages and all documents sent separately must be received by the VWM via email or USPS on or before 11:59 p.m. Monday, April 28. Applicants do not need to be JROTC participants in their high schools. All graduating seniors who meet the qualifications are welcome to apply. SCORE Mentor Available for Free Small Business Mentoring at Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce

Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in the Greater Williamsburg area will have a new resource to help them succeed starting Tuesday, April 1, when a certified SCORE mentor will be available at the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce office every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The free service, provided by SCORE, offers confidential one-on-one mentoring for new and existing business owners seeking guidance on business plans, marketing strategies, financial management, and overall business growth.

Business owners can drop in for mentoring sessions on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about SCORE and its free business mentoring services, visit score.org/williamsburg.

Williamsburg Landing Named One of Senior Care’s Best Places to Work; Live 

Williamsburg Landing has been named one of Senior Care’s Best Places to Work by WeCare Connect — an industry leader in senior care surveys.  

WeCare Connect also named Williamsburg Landing one of Senior Care’s Best Places to Live.

WeCare Connect uses the largest third-party survey data set in senior care to assess, certify, and rank organizations as Senior Care’s Best, according to Williamsburg Landing.

Williamsburg Landing is a CARF-accredited, single-site, nonprofit life plan community featuring Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Long-term Term Nursing, Memory Support, Namaste, and Adult Day services employing over 400 staff members. 

Bacon Street Youth and Family Services Hosts First Annual Mental Health Matters Awareness Walk

Bacon Street Youth and Family Services recently announced the inaugural Mental Health Matters Awareness Walk, set to take place on May 10 at 9 a.m. at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.

This community event, presented by Riverside Health, aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and fund critical mental health and substance use programs. The money raised will be used to provide services to all of the organization’s service areas including Williamsburg, Gloucester, and Newport News.

The one-mile walk is open to individuals of all ages and fitness levels, with registration priced at $20 for participants aged 11 and over. Children 10 and under can join for free. Those who register by April 1 will receive a commemorative t-shirt. In addition to the walk, attendees can enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages to stay energized and community resource tables.

The event also features exciting team awards for Most Team Members, Best Dressed Team, and Top Fundraising Team. Organizations and individuals can get involved by registering, donating, or volunteering.

Del. Chad Green Announces Reelection Campaign

Del. Chad Green, who serves the 69th House District in the Virginia House of Delegates, recently announced that he will seek reelection this November.

In his first term, Green authored of the Car Tax Elimination Bill in 2024 and “No Tax on Tips” legislation in 2025. He passed seven bills as chief patron and three bills as chief co-patron in addition to serving as co-patron of over 150 pieces of legislation during his tenure.

Green represents parts of James City, Gloucester, and York Counties and parts of the City of Newport News. First elected in November 2023, he serves on the House Education and Privileges and Elections Committees. 

Williamsburg Chapter SAR News

On Feb. 22, the Williamsburg Chapter and the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, in conjunction with The American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, presented The Commemoration of George Washington’s 293rd Birthday.

All in attendance celebrated the general’s birthday by singing “Happy Birthday,” followed by three huzzahs and sharing birthday cake.
