Virginia State Police Investigate Two-vehicle Crash in Williamsburg, Which Resulted in a Fatality

WILLIAMSBURG— On Oct. 26, around 9:30 a.m., the Williamsburg Police Department was dispatched to a car crash with injuries at Capitol Landing Road and Jefferson St. Virginia State Police said that Williamsburg PD requested state police to investigate the crash, shortly after.

According to state police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Toyota SUV,  Alan Smith of Pittsford, New York, was traveling on Jefferson Street when he came upon the Capitol Landing Road intersection, which has a properly posted ‘No Left Turn’ sign.

A police report continued to explain that Smith proceeded into the intersection and attempted to make a left turn and was struck by a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage. The driver of the Mitsubishi, Marcelino Manuel Johnson, was transported to  Riverside Doctor’s Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

Police say that alcohol was not a contributing factor, and it is unknown at this time if speed was a contributing factor. The report also said that Johnson, 24 years of age from Suffolk, Virginia, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Virginia State Police said that notification had been made to the next of kin and that Smith was been charged with reckless driving.
