WILLIAMSBURG — The Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce announced that retiring Senate Minority Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. will be this year’s Grand Marshal for the 2023 Christmas Parade.
A graduate of James Blair High School in Williamsburg, Norment attended college at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) before returning to Williamsburg to attend the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary.
In 1987, Norment was elected to the James City County Board of Supervisors. He served as Chairman of the Board in 1991 before being elected to the Senate of Virginia. Norment announced his intention to retire from the Senate earlier this year.
Norment remains involved in the community. He is a member of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s Board of Trustees. He is on the Hampton Roads Board of Directors of TowneBank and he chairs the Williamsburg Board of TowneBank. Norment is also a member of the Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the James City County Ruritan Club. Professionally, Norment is an attorney with Kaufman and Canoles, P.C.

“In the festive spirit of unity, we are thrilled and honored to welcome Senator Tommy Norment as the esteemed Grand Marshal of the 2023 Christmas Parade,” said Ben Ellington, Chair of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce.
“His distinguished career as Virginia State Senator has left an indelible mark on our state, region, and the heart of Greater Williamsburg, embodying the true spirit of service and community,” added Ellington.
The Chamber also announced that members of the Lafayette High School Theater Company will be the banner carriers for the Jingle Bell Jubilee on Sunday. Led by director Suzan McCorry, the LHS Theater Company has spent the last 15 years competing in the VHSL State Theatre Festival.
They were the First Place Champion at the Virginia Theater Association (VTA) conference in October. Additionally, two of the students also received the top two Best Actor awards. The company will also be performing “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Last year the parade saw a record attendance of 18,000 spectators, according to the chamber.
“The Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce is elated to usher in the magic of the season as we proudly host the 2023 Williamsburg Parade. For over five decades, this cherished event has woven the tapestry of our community, creating timeless memories and celebrating the spirit of togetherness that defines our beloved town since 1965,” said Terry Banez, CEO, Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce
