HAMPTON ROADS — The chapter level of the Virginia Writers Golden Nib Contest, an annual writing competition in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry, is currently open and closes July 15.

According to Chesapeake Bay Writers (CBW), the local chapter of the Virginia Writers Club (VWC), the Golden Nib began in 2005 and offers cash prizes for first, second and third place in each category. Entrants who live within the jurisdiction of a VWC chapter enter the competition through that chapter, with each chapter forwarding its first-place winning entries for judging at the state level. VWC members living in an area where no chapter exists can submit their entries to the chapter nearest to them.

The first, second, and third place winners in the state finals for each category are announced at the VWC annual meeting held in November.

All chapter first-place entries will be published in the Golden Nib Journal. Second and third place club winners may request publication in the VWC Spring Journal on their cover sheet. CBW also awards first place chapter winners a $25 check at the yearly All Stars Gala. Chapter contest guidelines and the required cover sheet can be found on the Chesapeake Bay Writers website.

The Chesapeake Bay Writers are a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club for published and aspiring writers. For additional information about CBW and its planned activities, visit chesapeakebaywriters.org or email CBWreply@gmail.com.
