WILLIAMSBURG — The City of Williamsburg has asked the seven members of the Williamsburg Truth and Reconciliation Committee (TRC) to continue serving on the workgroup for another year.

Formed by the city council in July 2021 to study the impact of racism, disenfranchisement, and racial injustice historically and presently on the residents of the City of Williamsburg, the committee first met in September of that year.

All seven members of the committee — Bobby Braxton, Adam CanadayKatherine Barko-Alva, Helen Casey-Rutland, Lawrence Gholson II, Laura Hill and Benming “Benny” Zhang — have agreed to continue to serve through June 2023, according to the City of Williamsburg.

City Manager Andrew O. Trivette announced the extension at the June 9 city council meeting.

TRC plans to host public forums, panels, and seminars in the fall to further their research and to gain more insight into individuals’ experiences with systemic racism and its effects on the Williamsburg community today.

A schedule of events will be released on the City’s website and social media channels at a later date.
