JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Ulster American Homestead Garden Center has been recognized with the Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum award.
On Wednesday, March 9, James City Clean County Commission announced that the Garden Center, located at 4191 Rochambeau Drive, was recognized with the quarterly award.
The Commission, along with James City County (JCC) Board of Supervisor Sue Sadler presented the award to Ulster American Homestead Garden Center for its sustainability efforts, which included offering a variety of organic plants and products, recycling efforts, and educational outreach regarding pollinator-friendly best practices.
The Garden Center is owned by Joel Patton and his family. The business was founded because of Mr. Patton’s passion for the environment since his childhood; having been raised in Northern Ireland.
The Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum award, which is co-sponsored by Newport News, Hampton, James City County, and York County, has been presented four awards quarterly since 1997, recognizing one business per locality. While the award ceremonies were curtailed in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the honorees are presented their awards at their place of business.
The three other honorees for this quarter include: Canon Virginia in Newport News, Less Than Zero Waste + Refill Shop in Hampton, and Off Leash K9 Hampton Roads in York County.
