YORKTOWN — This year Yorktown is pulling from every corner of the music spectrum for the 17th Annual Rhythms on the Riverwalk concerts series.
The free outdoor shows will take place every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 starting Sept. 9. The series is scheduled to run through the middle of October.
This year’s schedule will include local and regional talent from various genres including rhythm and blues, jazz, rock and country.
September 9: The Whiskey Rebellion– This nationally touring, high-energy acoustic band draws from their diverse backgrounds to bring a little bluegrass, jazz, and a bit of rock and roll to the stage.
September 16: The BJ Griffin Band– Griffin is a singing cellist who has performed internationally. He performs a mix of classical, jazz, and pop music in hopes of breaking the barriers between music genres.
September 23: Blue Tips Rhythm Revue– Described by some as the go-to Motown band in the region. The performers may be young, but don’t let their age fool you. They are filled with old-school soul.
September 30: Bobby BlackHat Band – This Hampton Roads legend brings together the finest blues musicians in Hampton Roads to perform classic, modern, and even some original blues tunes.
October 7: Dave Cynar Band– Having just recorded an album in Nashville, this East Coast country singer blends his original songs along with country hits of the day.
October 14: Good Shot Judy– Local fan favorites, always GSJ brings the party in the form of swing, jazz and American song book classics.
The public is encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to make themselves comfortable during the shows. Coolers are permitted, but there will be a rotation of Boyd’s Tasty Dogs and Coastal Thirst food trucks on site every week. The restaurants around the Riverwalk will also be open before, during and after the shows.
Due to the maintenance and structure repairs taking place on the upper deck of the Water Street Parking Terrace through at least Oct. 1, shuttles will run from the American Revolution Museum, 200 Water Street, to Riverwalk Landing from 5:30 p.m. to 9.
The free Yorktown Trolley will also be running until 9 p.m. on all concert nights to pick up visitors from other nearby public lots including those behind The Gallery at York Hall, 301 Main Steet, the York-Poquoson Courthouse, 301 Ballard Street, and the County Administration Building, 224 Ballard Steet.
