WILLIAMSBURG — Here is a recap of the City of Williamsburg Architectural Review Board meeting on Mar. 23.
The board approved several pending applications that included graphic signs, wooden fences, and patio improvements.

Another Broken Egg Cafe, 1412 Richmond Road (the location of the former IHOP), received approval for “an internally illuminated 40 square foot building mounted sign and a 32 square foot monument sign refacing,” according to the agenda documents.
“The applicant is proposing black letters and graphics for the building mounted sign and white lettering with a black background for the monument sign,” according to the consent agenda from Erin Burke, city principal planner. “The base of the monument will also be black.”
The application was submitted by the property’s owner listed as “D. Florakis.”
The board approved The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s application to build a 4 foot wooden fence behind Travis House, 345 West Francis St., and to paint the fence with “Hardwood Putty.”
Another application was approved for Jennifer and Matthew Dean, 300 Indian Springs Road.
“This is an application for a Highland Stone Block wall in ‘Jefferson’ and a black aluminum fence to allow for the installation of a new swimming pool and patio,” Burke noted in the consent agenda.
High Street Shops LLC and RCS-HI applied to have two “internally illuminated building signs” at 25 by 32 square feet with white lettering and white graphics at Primis Bank, 1430-1200 High St. The board recommended approval on this agenda item as well.
Patriots Plaza Development LLC applied for a 40 square foot sign with black, beige, blue, fuchsia and grey colors for the graphic and lettering for The Big Scoop, 3044-106 Richmond Road, which was approved by the board.
One of the suggested colors for the sign, fuchsia, was initially not on the approved color palette per state guidelines, which recommends a maximum of three colors used for signs unless approved otherwise.
However, the use of the color was “limited,” so therefore the board ultimately approved the sign.
The board recommended approval of “site furnishings” at Second Street Bistro, 140 Second St.
The application was submitted by the Gazebo Partnership, the property’s owner.
“This is an after-the-fact application for a patio enclosure,” Burke wrote. “The applicant has installed retractable vinyl curtains around the patio and stationary panels in front of the existing railing, and an aluminum frame storefront door to replace the previously installed gate.”
“The frames for the screens and the door have been painted to match the existing railing,” Burke added.”
