Riverside Health System and Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a national breast cancer nonprofit, are brining virtual support to breast cancer survivors in October.

The Zoom virtual series is for all women, especially those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer before 45 years old. Click here to sign up for a workshop.

“Breast cancer is not easy to deal with for any woman,” said Elizabeth Jenkins, RN, Riverside’s Breast Cancer Navigator in Newport News and Williamsburg and virtual workshop leader, in a prepared statement. “But there are unique challenges for young women.”

Attendees can tackle issues that affect breast cancers survivors from hot flashes and mood swings to their sex life and spiritual self-care, according Riverside’s announcement.

The series has four sessions which covers a variety of topics:

  • “Hot and Bothered: Coping with Early Menopause” on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
  • “Stay Alert: Managing the Long-Term Side Effects of Breast Cancer Treatment” on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m.
  • “Let’s Talk About Breast Cancer and Intimacy” on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
  • “Self-Care After Breast Cancer” on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m.

Jenkins said the workshops provide additional resources to help make breast cancer survivors’ journeys as “smooth as possible.”

“It’s important to take time to bring this support to women,” Jenkins said. “Dealing with breast cancer can be scary, but we are here for you.”

The “Living Beyond Breast Cancer” Virtual Survivorship Series starts in October.

After registering, participants will get a Zoom link for each session. For more information or questions about the workshop series, call 757-594-4229.
