Another person has tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID 19) at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Jennifer Boykin, president of the Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, wrote a letter Sunday to employees about the new case.

The employee worked at Building 600-1 at the Off-Yard Office, 39th Street and Marshall Avenue and was last on company property on March 13, according to the shipyard’s website.

“Anyone believed to be at risk for exposure has been contacted by their leadership and asked to self-quarantine,” Boykin wrote.

The new case was listed under Saturday’s date even though Boykin’s letter was sent Sunday.

As of Sunday, James City County has 70 positive cases of the coronavirus, Newport News has 17, York County has 9, Hampton has 7, Williamsburg has 7 and Poquoson has 2, according to the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

There are now 890 cases statewide and 22 people have died from the coronavirus. Seven of those 22 deaths were in the Peninsula Health District.

The Peninsula Health District covers Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County and York County. The Hampton Health District covers Hampton.
