A new store has opened in York County that supplies customers with outdoor gear, toys and even chicken swaps.
“We have a little bit of everything for the ‘out here’ lifestyle,” said Rich Burke, manager of the new Tractor Supply. “It’s just what we do.”
The store, located at 7437 George Washington Memorial Highway, opened officially on Nov. 23 but had a ribbon cutting event recently. Burke said since opening, the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
“We want to be a part of the community, it’s a huge part of what we do,” Burke said. “I know personally, I’m fortunate to be in Yorktown.”
The new location is part of a national chain founded in 1938 that supplies areas around the country with basic maintenance products for home, land, pet and animal owners, according to the company’s website.
The store’s selections include a variety of feed for livestock and pets, assorted plumbing, trailers and tools, according to a news release from York County. There will be approximately 12 to 16 associates employed at the store depending on the season.
Burke said the Yorktown location also sells children’s toys occasionally and during the colder months they will sell items such as winter clothing, wood stoves and propane tanks.
Oh, and there will be events such as chicken swaps.
“At a chicken swap, people bring out their chickens and different animals and try to trade them with folks,” he said. “It’s a great way to get to know people.”
Burke said the location, which is 19,000 square feet, is a great option for locals because prior to opening, the closest Tractor Supply stores were in Gloucester and Toano.
