With temperatures dropping and the holiday season approaching, Virginia’s premier attic, basement, and crawl space experts, The Drying Co. is doubly busy this time of year with its two-fold mission: keeping homes well-insulated and warm and collecting a bounty of gifts and toys for local children with its annual Toy Drive.
The Drying Co.’s annual holiday Toy Drive kicked off November 1st and benefits children and families in Child Development Resources (CDR), a local public charity founded in Williamsburg and serves more than 1,400 young children and families in the community.
In addition to supporting CDR’s Annual Auction, The Drying Co. established and organized its annual Toy Drive to support CDR’s local children and families and commend CDR’s laborious efforts to accomplish the organization’s motto which states:
“CDR believes every child deserves the best start in life. Whether a child is facing developmental delays, a lack of resources, homelessness or other special needs, CDR is there to provide resources necessary for that child and family to succeed.”
CDR strives so children, our future, can thrive
Since its inception in 1965 as Williamsburg Preschool for Special Children, CDR has evolved and expanded to provide a wide scope of services to local children, their families and childcare providers with the aim of giving all children an equal start and opportunity to grow and thrive.
CDR provides early intervention programs for families, with infants and toddlers from birth to age three, living in the Historic Triangle, and “strives to inspire and empower children, families and early childhood professionals to reach their full potential, whatever their challenges,” according to its mission statement.
The organization, which believes early intervention is key, focuses on the following at risk groups of children, including children who:
- have disabilities or delays in development
- are at risk because of very low family income
- have other risk factors such as premature birth, teens parents, or parental substance abuse
- need high-quality childcare and development services
“The future of America lies in the children of today. By providing early intervention services and making affordable, high-quality early care and education a priority, we are helping to ensure that the children of today grow up to be productive citizens of tomorrow,” states CDR.
In addition to providing assistance and a wealth of resources and information to parents and caregivers, CDR provides state-of-the-art training and technical assistance to child development professionals across the U.S. and around the globe.
In organizing its annual Toy Drive for CDR, The Drying Co., shines a light on the important, widespread work the organization performs and how CDR’s work benefits local children, families and the local community at large.
“We want to take the opportunity to raise awareness about CDR and the amazing work they do for families in our community and help raise donations,” The Drying Co. stated.
For Steve Tetreault, owner of The Drying Co., its annual Toy Drive provides a prime opportunity for his company and all community members to donate to CDR, as well as honor the organization’s vital work.
Upon the event’s November kick-off, Tetreault praised and acknowledged the value and magnitude of the organization’s work, which encompasses supporting and educating families and training childcare professionals.
“We are excited to kick off this year’s Toy Drive for CDR,” said Tetreault upon the commencement of this year’s Toy Drive. “It is a truly great organization dedicated to helping children, their parents, teachers, and physicians in our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to help support CDR and its mission.”

Co. has serviced the region to ensure homes are well-insulated and prepared to endure cold weather, providing local families and residents with the gift of a warm, cozy home in which to enjoy the holiday season. Step up and gift a gift for children
The Drying Co. encourages you and your family to donate a gift this holiday season to support this phenomenal organization and its children, families and programs.
The Drying Co. will be accepting donations and toys for its Toy Drive for CDR until December 13th.
Donations for The Toy Drive can be dropped off at the The Drying Co., located at the following address: 236 Industrial Blvd. Suite A, Toana, Virginia 23168.
Please note CDR will only accept donations in their original packaging and that all toys should be appropriate for children aged birth to 36 months. For the holidays, the CDR is in need of the following types of toys:
- Manipulative toys (for example nesting toys, lacing toys)
- Science toys
- Dress-up clothes
- Kitchen sets
- Pretend dishes and food
- Dolls (male and female, of diverse cultures)
- Cars, trucks
- Baby dolls’ clothes, bottles (for pretend play)
CDR is also always in need of diapers of all sizes. Therefore, if you do not have time to pick up a toy, you can easily purchase and donate diapers to show your support for CDR.
More ways to support CDR
In addition to the donating toys and diapers, Jenny O’Donnell, CDR’s Development Associate specifies numerous ways you and your family can support CDR and its programs throughout the year.
“Donations can be made on our website cdr.org. CDR hosts special events throughout the year that individuals can attend or participate in, including our Bid ‘n Buy Auction in March, our Superhero 5K in August, and our Oyster Roast in November. CDR also needs volunteers to help in our First Steps Child Care and Development Centers, our Developmental Playgroup, and at our special events,” says O’Donnell.
