Drivers on Interstate 64 should expect a series of nightly lane closures — and possibly some delays — through the week. As a result of VDOT’s I-64 widening project certain ramps and lanes will experience closures from July 28 to Aug. 3.
A quick note: Because of events associated with the 2019 Commemoration scheduled in Jamestown next week, VDOT encourages motorists to prepare for increased traffic, delays and interruptions in service along Interstate 64, the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry system and other roadways adjacent to the event locations.
VDOT anticipates traffic to be most heavily impacted starting as early as 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, during the celebration events hosted at the Historic Jamestowne Visitor Center. Motorists should be prepared for potential closures on Jamestown Road (Route 31) from Greensprings Road (Route 614) to the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry dock. As a result, ferry service will be suspended during those times. For ferry traffic updates and operational status, motorists should call 800-VA-FERRY (800-823-3779).

Lane closures
- Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 east and west from Route 199 Lightfoot exit (exit 234) to Route 199/Humelsine Parkway (exit 242) July 29 – Aug. 1, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. westbound and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. eastbound
- Daytime lane closures under flagger control on Lakeshead Drive at the I-64 overpass, on July 29 – Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorist and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
- On I-64, triple lane closures eastbound from Hampton Roads Center Parkway (exit 261) to I-664 south (exit 264) on July 29 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and on Aug. 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- On I-64, double lane closure eastbound from Hampton Roads Center Parkway (exit 261) to I-664 south (exit 264) July 30-31, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- On I-64, double lane closures westbound from I-664 south (exit 264) to Hampton Roads Center Parkway (exit 261) July 28-29, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- On I-64, double lane closure southbound from Poindexter Street to Military Highway, July 28- August 2, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Ramp Closures
- On I-64, closed on ramp from West Norfolk Road to VA-164E
- A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure on Route 143 Merrimac Trail north to I-64 west continues. Traffic will follow detour signage in place directing motorists to the Route 143 south on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.
