ORIGINAL STORY:
VIRGINIA BEACH – An armed customer at a convenience store shot two suspected robbers, killing one and injuring the other Thursday morning.
Police said it happened at around 2 a.m. at the 7-Eleven, 130 S. Newtown Road.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found “two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.” One died there and the other taken to a local hospital with what police described as “life-threatening injuries.”
Police said an investigation indicated the suspects went into the store to rob it.
“Another citizen, who was already in the store and in possession of a legal weapon, confronted and ultimately shot the suspects,” police spokeswoman Linda Kuehn wrote in a news release. “An officer located a third person a short distance away from the 7-11 and took him into custody.”
Earlier at 12:28 p.m., the 7-Eleven at 1010 Pacific Avenue also was robbed by three suspects. There were no reported injuries at this incident.
Police said they believe “these three suspects are responsible for both overnight robberies in our city, as well as others that occurred in other jurisdictions.”
The identities of the suspects were not immediately released.
