York County became a certified Virginia Values Veterans (V3) employer through the Virginia Department of Veteran Services recently.

As a member of the V3, the county can now hire, recruit and retain more veterans, according to the county’s news release.

Organizations and companies who partner and become members do not have to commit to hiring veterans in order to join the V3 program. In addition, some businesses and localities are eligible for up to $10,000 through the V3’s Employment Grant, or approximately $1,000 per hired, eligible veteran.

It’s unclear how many grants the county has received through the program, how many veterans the county plans to hire and why the county did not participate in this program earlier.

WYDaily called Dave Gorwitz, the director of human resources for the county, who did not immediately return multiple requests for comment.
